Where to access Proclarix

The American Urology Association includes Proclarix in the 2023 guidelines as a consequence of results published demonstrating accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer by combining Proclarix with mpMRI. It has also been included in the 2023 European Association of Urology (EAU) Guidelines for the diagnostic evaluation of prostate cancer.

However, it is several years away from being available on the NHS. Therefore as of today, Proclarix is only available privately at a current price of £195 for the test plus possibly additional fees for phlebotomy (taking the blood sample) and a private appointment with a Urologist following an equivical mpMRI.

However, even in the NHS, if your MRI have an equivocal result, you can always request that you have a Proclarix test which you state you are willing to pay for, prior to agreeing to a biopsy. This request will be treated sympathetically if you are an NHS patient under one of the Urologists listed.

Below is the current list of Urological Surgeons who currently use Proclarix when required for all their private patients.

If you are under any private Urological Surgeon and have an equivical mpMRI report (PIRADS or Likert 3), you are perfectly with in your rights to ask to have a  proclarix test prior to agreeing to a biopsy and pay for it yourself.

With a referral, Cambridge Clinical Laboratories (CCL) will arrange for a blood test locally to you which you will have to pay for.  We are currently researching whether UK private health insurers will pay for the test.

Finally, you should be aware that the ‘turn around time’ from taking the blood sample to receiving the results as around 5 days.
