Where to access Active Surveillance
Clinics and hospitals offering active surveillance increase every day.
Many NHS Trusts and Private Hospitals and their Urological Surgeons now provide Active Surveillance as a treatment option and the list is growing every day.
Even hospitals as far away as the Royal Cornwall NHS Trust in Truro now provide this service. We suggest you phone your trust and check if they offer Active Surveillance as a treatment option.
If not, remember you perfectly entitled to ask to be referred to a Consultant/hospital that does offer this service.
It should be noted that Active Surveillance requires high quality mpMR scans of the prostate at minimum to the PROMIS standard. The higher the image quality, the better. We have had reports from leading Consultant Urologists that a lot of mpMR scans and the reports are of poor quality even though PROMIS complaint resulting in inaccurate biopsy results as samples had been taken from the wrong regions of the prostate. As a result patients have been inappropriately placed on Active Surveillance when they have been treated. If you only spend time and maybe money on one thing, get the best mpMR scan reported by the best Uro Radiologists
Further the hospital or surgeon must also have performed a transperineal biopsy before Active surveillance can be offered.
Below is a list of Physicians who offer Active Surveillance. It is not be complete.
Below, are listed some of the most experienced Consultants in Active Surveillance by region.
